Olympic FC are up against Young Roar in a blockbuster Semi Final at Goodwin Park on Sunday evening (6pm KO).
Olympic climbed to finish third on the NPL Queensland league table after winning four from four in a crucial final month of the 2021 regular season.
Young Roar edged out Olympic on goal difference for second spot in what was their highest ever finish as they secured their place in a first ever finals series.
Sunday’s match pits the league’s most potent attack against the best defence, Young Roar scored a league high 81 goals this season while Olympic kept a league best 14 clean sheets and conceded just 19 goals – the least of any team in the competition this season.
The winner of Sunday’s match will face Lions in next weekend’s NPL Queensland Grand Final at Perry Park after they defeated Peninsula Power 1-0 at AJ Kelly Park on Friday night.
LAST TIME WE MET
A Cyrus Dehmie double saw Young Roar take the points against Olympic when the sides last met back in August.
Olympic have faced Young Roar 16 times in NPL Queensland action with Olympic winning eight, Young Roar winning five and a further three draws being played out in the previous league meetings between the two sides.
WHAT WAS SAID – Ben Cahn: Head Coach
“It’s a great achievement (Making finals for a fourth straight season), the quality of the league improves every year, there are some clubs now that are setting a really high bar so everybody involved can be proud that we’ve managed to keep up with them and get in to the four again.”
“Four weeks ago, everyone had written us off but we dug deep, got four massive wins and we’re ready to give it everything again tomorrow.”
