MATCH WRAP
Olympic secured their place in the 2021 NPL Queensland Grand Final with a 3-0 win over Brisbane Roar Youth at Goodwin Park on Sunday evening.
Goals from Daniel Leck, Captain Steve Whyte and Isaka Cernak earned Olympic their fourth consecutive Grand Final appearance, with a rematch of 2020’s decider against Lions FC set for next Saturday night.
Olympic opened the scoring before Young Roar had touched the ball after just 19 seconds with Daniel Leck slamming home a finish from the top of the box after being played in by Shelford Dais for what was his 18th goal of the season.
Young Roar were then reduced to 10 men late in the 37th minute when Samuel Klein was handed a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Shelford Dais.
Olympic capitalised on the extra man advantage in the second half with Steve Whyte meeting a ball played into the area from Leck, doubling the lead with his strike deflecting past Roar keeper Jacson Riley in the 58th minute.
Isaka Cernak then rounded out the result and secured the club’s place in Saturday’s decider, turning home his first ever goal for the club in the 76th minute after Leck’s free kick ricocheted back off the post.
At the other end Olympic held firm for a league best 15th clean sheet of the season heading into the Grand Final.
