Olympic Football Club have bolstered their midfield stocks with the addition of Lachlan Sayers ahead of the 2021 NPL Queensland season.
Sayers, who turns 21 today, arrives at Goodwin Park via Brisbane City where he was a standout in a side that was relegated to the FQPL by Olympic on the final day of the 2020 NPL Queensland season.
Despite City’s struggles Sayers strong season earned him selection in the Ben Cahn-led NPL Queensland All Stars sides that took on Brisbane Roar and New South Wales in December.
The former Brisbane Roar academy player has quickly developed a reputation as one of the competition’s most exciting youngsters for his ability in tight areas and tough tackling.
Sayers got his first taste of action in an Olympic shirt in the sides first up 6-1 pre season win over Mitchelton, putting in an impressive shift alongside Steve Whyte in the of the centre park.
“I’m thrilled to be signing on with Olympic for the 2021 season, it was a pretty simple decision for me,” Sayers said.
“I wanted to play at the highest level possible and be part of a club rich in culture with a strong playing environment, I’ve got no doubt Olympic provides exactly that.
“The dominance of the club in the NPL over the past three years really speaks for itself.
“Together with Ben (Cahn) and the calibre of players alongside me, I hope to take my game to the next level, my aim is to learn as much as I can from the coaching staff and players and to push myself every session.
“As a squad, I believe we can showcase a really high standard of football this the season. The goal for 2021 is clear – to win.”
