Olympic Football Club are delighted to confirm former A-League Championship winning defender, Zac Anderson has signed on with the club for the 2021 NPL Queensland season.

The 29-year-old defender, who has played for the Olyroos, Sydney FC, Central Coast Mariners and several clubs around Asia brings a wealth of experience to the Olympic backline.

Anderson amassed 87 A-League appearances across spells at Sydney FC, Gold Coast United and Central Coast – winning the 2013 Grand Final with the Mariners.

Anderson also competed in Asia’s premier club competition – the AFC Champions League with both Sydney FC & Central Coast Mariners.

The towering 1.91m centre back was part of sides at both the Sky Blues and Mariners that reached the Champions League Round of 16 in 2013 & 2016 respectively.

Following his time in the A-League, Anderson spent five seasons in Asia – initially spending six months at Emirates Club in the UAE Arabian Gulf League before heading to Malaysia.

Most notably in Malaysia Anderson played for Kedah with whom he won the Malaysian FA Cup and Super Cup ahead of stints at Selangor and Perak TBG.

Anderson arrives at Olympic from Singapore Premier League side, Hougang United where he played 20 games, scoring once as he helped the Cheetahs to a sixth placed finish in 2020.

Anderson, who has represented both the Olyroos and Young Socceroos said he couldn’t wait to get going in red and white.

“Once I made a decision to come back to Queensland to be around family and friends and a couple of conversations with Ben (Cahn) I knew that it was the right club for 2021,” Anderson said.

“I think that the decision is based on longevity, I’d like to finish my career at Olympic, there are a lot of factors that have brought me to the club.

“Ben Cahn being one of them, he’s a terrific Coach and the culture that he’s created at the club is something that I really want to be a part of.

“Now I’m coming into the mature years of my career, I’m really excited about contributing in more of a leadership capacity, there’s a lot of great young players at the club, so I’m really looking forward to coming back and helping those boys kick on.

“I’ve seen what the club has done the last couple of years and I’m really excited to come back and contribute to the squad, there’s a fantastic side that Ben’s put together and the ambition has to be to win the league and to win the Grand Final this year after missing out in recent seasons.

“I think this year is our year to put that pressure on ourselves, we’re setting our own expectations and for me coming to this club the aim is nothing but to bring that trophy to the club because the club deserves it.”

Anderson is one of two major signings set to be announced by Olympic today, stay tuned as we unveil another former A-League player at 1pm.
