Olympic add Abbott ahead of Annerley clash

Olympic have added another former NPLW Queensland star to their ranks with Kim Abbott signing on in red and white for the 2020 Capital League One season.

The 31-year-old American who has played in her homeland and Sweden joins Olympic after spending the past two seasons with The Gap where she won the 2018 NPLW Premiership.

Abbott, who has primarily played as defender is expected to be utilised in a role further up the park at Olympic.

Abbott, who is in the squad for tonight’s Elaine Watson Cup clash against Annerley said she was excited to have signed on in red and white.

“I’m good mates with Liz and she’s a good recruiter, she said great things about the club and I’m looking forward to enjoying a more social and a more attacking side of the game.”

“It’s exciting to be here with the vision the club has and to be part of that, it’s a special time for the club and for all of us involved,” Abbott said.

The American played her first match for the club on Monday night, scoring a hat-trick in a comprehensive victory over Southside Eagles.

Head Coach Martin Dowson said he was delighted have added Abbott to his squad for the upcoming campaign.

“Kim is a great addition to the squad, her wealth of experience and quality shone through in Monday’s game scoring three and creating many other chances,” Dowson said.

“In the couple of sessions we’ve had she has been a joy to work with and the U16’s from last year are already learning from her, she is a huge asset to the long term project we have started at Olympic.”
