Olympic FC are just one win away from qualifying for the national FFA Cup Round of 32 after defeating Southside Eagles 2-0 at Memorial Park on Tuesday night.

Goals from Alex Barlow and Daniel Leck secured Olympic’s passage through to Preliminary Round 7 where the winner of Wednesday’s clash between Peninsula Power and Ipswich Knights awaits.

Barlow opened the scoring in the 40th minute when he played a one-two with Leck to get in behind the Eagles defence before finishing past Dan Mcilwain at the near post for what was his first goal in red and white.

Leck rounded out the 2-0 score line in the 76th minute with a looping first time finish from range that caught out Mcilwain, who was unable to keep the ball out despite getting fingertips to it.

Tuesday’s win means Olympic, who kept their fourth straight clean sheet need just one more victory to qualify for the FFA Cup Round of 32 for the third time in a row.

Speaking post-match, Olympic Head Coach, Ben Cahn who has successfully lead Olympic to the national rounds of the FFA Cup at every attempt said he was pleased with his sides showing against difficult opposition on Tuesday night.

“These games aren’t easy. The pitch was tough to play on and Southside made it hard for us but I’m proud of the players, the whole squad gave everything, we controlled the game well and got the job done,” Cahn said.

“I’ve watched their last few games and have been really impressed with one or two of their players, they did well tonight and gave a good account of themselves.

“We’ve got to take the time to recover and then we’ll build again for the weekend. We’ve got good momentum and we’ll be ready to put in another big performance this weekend.”

Olympic’s immediate focus turns to Sunday’s NPL Queensland Round 11 clash against Brisbane Roar Youth at Goodwin Park (4:45pm KO).
