Olympic FC got their 2021 NPL Queensland campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 opening round victory over Gold Coast United at Goodwin Park on Sunday night.
An 81st minute strike from second half substitute, Olaide Yinka-Kehinde proved decisive as Olympic opened their season with a 1-0 win over United at home for the second year running.
Yinka-Kehinde found the breakthrough after playing a one-two with Daniel Leck before cutting in from the left flank and finishing past Ryan Meskell from a tight angle.
Sunday’s win sees Olympic FC Head Coach, Ben Cahn, who now enters his fourth season at the club maintain his 100% opening day record.
A strong home support at Goodwin Park also got their first look at new signings; Zac Anderson, Isaka Cernak, Shannon Brady and Alex Barlow who all made their competitive debuts in red and white in Sunday’s match.
“We’ve spoken a lot in the pre-season about finding that extra one percent, finding the character to come up and win games like that, and they did that today.”
Head Coach – Ben Cahn
Next up, Olympic fly north to Mackay to face the Magpies Crusaders at Sologinkin Oval on Saturday night.
The Magpies Crusaders, who sat out the back end of the 2020 season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic also got their season off to a winning start over the weekend, with a 1-0 win over Brisbane Strikers at Perry Park.
