MATCH WRAP
Olympic maintained their position on top of the FQPL Women’s table with 2-1 victory over Virginia United on Saturday evening at Goodwin Park.
The home side took a lead into the break after Rosie Sutton opened the scoring with her fourth goal of the season, receiving the ball from a deflected cross in front of goal and slamming her effort into the top of the net.
Olympic doubled their lead in the 77th minute when Nadine Keast latched onto a through ball from Allira Toby, rounded the keeper and finished for her thirteenth goal of the year, the most of any Olympic player this season.
Virginia United found a late charge with a goal in the 91st minute headed into the net from Ali Moffat, but it would prove too little too late as Olympic hung on to secure the three points.
Virginia’s stoppage time goal was the first Olympic have conceded in the FQPL this season, leaving them just short of keeping a fifth straight clean sheet.
Saturday’s win leaves Olympic four points clear at the top of the table although Brisbane City are able to cut the gap to three points with a win against SWQ Thunder on Sunday afternoon.
