MATCH WRAP

Olympic came away with the three points in the second last matchday of the NPL Queensland regular season with a 1-0 win against Magpies Crusaders United.

The game was called off in the 60th minute due to extreme weather conditions with Olympic awarded the three points after leading thanks to a Shannon Brady goal.

Olympic held the majority of possession and created a number of chances despite being unable to find the breakthrough in the opening half.

Daniel Leck forced Mackay’s goalkeeper Jayden Tower into a flying save with a header from close from Mundy’s well-placed cross.

Leck came close again with a header onto the roof of the net off Danny Driver’s set piece.

Brady then made a driving run at the Magpies defence towards the top of the box before blasting his strike just over the bar.

Brady got his name on the scoresheet in the 47th minute – his 12th goal of the season getting on the end of Leck’s through ball and finishing into the bottom corner.

Play was initially paused due to lightning overhead in the 60th minute, but after a delay with weather not easing the referees made the decision to abandon the game.

The result sees Olympic jump into 4th place on 52 points, with one game left to play in the 2021 NPL Queensland regular season.
