Olympic moved back into the NPL Queensland top four courtesy of 1-0 win over rivals Lions FC at Goodwin Park on Sunday night.

Shannon Brady’s first half strike proved decisive as Olympic climbed to fourth, with a game in hand on third placed Lions.

Olympic created a number of chances in the opening stanza coming close through, Jack Glover, Matt Mundy and Daniel Leck before finally finding the breakthrough via Brady on the stroke of half time.

Brady broke the deadlock in the 45th minute when he beat Tommy Jarrard after receiving a Steve Whyte through ball and slammed his left footed strike across goal and into the bottom corner for what was his 11th goal of the 2021 NPL Queensland season.

Neither side was able to add to the scoring in the second half with another strong defensive showing from Olympic highlighted by a heroic Danny Driver goal line block to deny Lions, Max Mikkola an equaliser from point blank range.

Sunday’s win combined with Sunshine Coast’s defeat at the hands of Moreton Bay sees Olympic jump into fourth position on 49 points, two points above Sunshine Coast Wanderers and now only a point below third place Lions FC with a game in hand.

Olympic prevailed 3-2 against Magpies Crusaders thanks to goals from Jack Glover, Zac Anderson & Daniel Leck in the reverse fixture at Sologinkin Oval in March.

Magpies Crusaders sit in 13th with relegation already confirmed, with their previous match a 5-0 loss to Brisbane Roar Youth.
