Olympic FC recorded their biggest ever NPL Queensland win with a 10-0 hammering of Brisbane Strikers at Goodwin Park on Sunday night.
Shelford Dais, Costa Psaros, Daniel Leck, Shannon Brady & James Cuminao all found the back of the net as Olympic climbed back into the competition’s top four with a mammoth win.
Dais opened the scoring and his account for 2021 season in the 8th minute when he turned a Brady cross into the bottom corner with a first time finish.
Just a minute later Dais turned provider, playing in Psaros on the turn who beat Strikers Keeper Ryan Mudaliar with a delicate effort from close range.
Dais got his second of the night in the 17th minute when he drove a half volley into the back of the net after Mudaliar could only parry Psaros’ initial cross.
Olympic’s leading scorer this season, Daniel Leck got in on the act in the 21st minute when he latched onto a Steve Whyte through ball and placed his finish into the bottom corner.
Brady made it five it in the 28th minute when he tucked away a Cuminao cross at the back post – rounding out Olympic’s scoring for the first half.
Within two minute of the second stanza commencing Leck made it six, slamming home a Psaros cross from inside the area to take his goalscoring tally to eight in eight for the 2021 NPL Queensland season.
Psaros completed his brace in the 57th minute, rifling in a finish off the underside of the crossbar after combining brilliantly with Dais in the build up.
Brady then chipped in with a quick fire pair of goals – both close range, first time finishes to round out his first ever hat-trick in red and white.
Cuminao completed the 10-0 rout in the 88th minute when he converted from the penalty spot after Olympic substitute, Taj Hudson was chopped down inside the area.
Speaking post-match, Olympic Head Coach, Ben Cahn said his side were pleased with their performance but wouldn’t be getting carried away by Sunday’s result.
“It was a positive night for us, we understand that Strikers are a young side but we still had to turn up, start well, do the right things and see it through. It was a high level performance,” Cahn said.
“Now we’ve got to focus on working hard in every session, improving and continuing to evolve.”
Focus for Olympic now turns to next Saturday’s clash against Gold Coast Knights at the Croatian Sports Centre (5:30pm KO).
