MATCH WRAP

Olympic continued their strong start to the season as they came from behind to win 3-2 against Moreton Bay in a five-goal thriller at Wolter Park.

Saturday’s victory makes it three wins from three in the NPL this season thanks to goals from Olympic’s new signings Zac Kierpal, Keegan Jelacic and Takeru Okada.

Kierpal found the net early against his former club, opening his Olympic account in the process with a first-time finish into the bottom corner off a cross from Shannon Brady following a slick team move from Olympic.

The Jets were quick to find an equaliser with a long-range effort from Ryo Ono beating Lachlan Hunter in the 25th minute. Ono then got his second, converting from the spot after Moreton Bay United were awarded a penalty moments before half time to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

The second half saw the score once again level in the 55th minute with Okada turning home a pinpoint cross from Jelacic after the Olympic number eight beat his marker on the left.

Jelacic then got himself on the scoresheet once again, reinstating Olympic’s lead by sending Jets goalkeeper Nathan Foster the wrong way with a penalty after he was chopped down in the box, off the back of slick build up play with Okada with twenty minutes left to play.

The final moments of the game saw substitute Jayden Dee denied by the bar after pushing it past the keeper, and Lachie Hunter making a crucial double save from close-goal range to deny Nathan Beagley, ensuring the Olympic held firm and took all three points back to Goodwin Park.

Saturday’s win means Olympic finish the weekend level with Gold Coast Knights at the top of the league as the only two sides with maximum points after the opening three rounds.
