MATCH WRAP

Olympic returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Logan Lightning at Cornubia Park on Sunday evening.

Zac Anderson, Shannon Brady and Daniel Leck all got on the scoresheet as Olympic did their chances of finals football no harm, Olympic look to secure a fourth straight season amongst the NPL Queensland’s top four.

Olympic opened the scoring early in the 22nd minute, a looping header from acting captain, Zac Anderson finding the back of the net for his fourth goal for the year off the back of Danny Driver’s pinpoint free kick.

A fiery first 45 saw the match reduced to 10 v 9 with three straight-red cards handed out – Olympic’s Matt Mundy and Logan Lightning’s Adam Edgar being the initial recipients for their parts in a scuffle in the 25th minute, with the third handed out ten minutes before the break to Logan’s Conor Smith for a reckless challenge on Daniel Leck.

Olympic controlled much of the second half and were rewarded for their efforts with a ninth goal of the season for Shannon Brady, who beat the keeper at the near post after a Daniel Leck through-ball into the box, on the end of a slick team move from the visitors.

Leck then got on the scoresheet himself for the 17th time in 20 league matches this season, finishing off a ball played-in by substitute, Isaka Cernak.

At the opposite end the Olympic defence held firm for their ninth NPL Queensland clean sheet of the season.

The result takes Olympic to 42 points leaving the club in sixth place on the table, just three points shy of third placed Gold Coast Knights with a game in hand on their rivals from the Croatian Sports Centre.
