Olympic handed Gold Coast Knights their first ever home NPL Queensland defeat at the Croatian Sports Centre with a 2-0 victory on Saturday night.
Goals from Shannon Brady and Costa Psaros secured all three points for Olympic as they cut the gap between themselves and Knights – who sit equal top of the league table to four points.
Brady opened the scoring against his former club in the 25th minute when got on the end of a pinpoint Steve Whyte through ball, cut in from the right and blasted his effort into the top corner at the near post.
Psaros scored Olympic’s second in the 60th minute when he got in behind the Knights defence on the end of a brilliant Danny Driver pass and rocketed his first time finish past Josh Langdon to round out the 2-0 win.
Speaking post-match, Olympic Head Coach, Ben Cahn was full of praise for his player who ended Knights 32-match unbeaten home NPL Queensland run.
“It was a big three points for us. It was a tough game, they’re a really good side,” Cahn said.
“Everyone who took the pitch gave everything and we restricted them to very little.
“Without watching it back I’d say we would have liked to have controlled the game a little more with possession but we defended really, really well and looked very threatening going forward.
“The boys have been exceptional at training, they’ve dug deep in difficult circumstances to find another level.
“We have to turn up Monday, work hard, keep growing, keep evolving and prepare to put in another good performance against Capalaba next weekend.”
Olympic’s next up clash against Capalaba is at Goodwin Park on Saturday night (6pm KO).
