Match Preview: Olympic FC vs SWQ Thunder

Olympic FC

Olympic are finally back in home FQPL Women’s action when they host SWQ Thunder at Goodwin Park on Saturday night (6:15pm KO).

Olympic currently sit top of the league having won both of their matches since the competition split, including a season high 9-0 win over Peninsula Power following a month long COVID enforced break.

Thunder, who beat Power 4-3 in their only match following the competition split sit in eighth position on the league table.

Olympic defeated Thunder 6-0 when the sides went head-to-head earlier this season at Goodwin Park in April.

Liz Doherty lead the scoring with a hat-trick, Nadine Keast bagged a brace and Teani Karalaouka also got in on the scoring with a late screamer as Olympic grabbed their first win of the 2021 season.

WHAT WAS SAID – Allira Toby: Forward

“It’ll be nice to be back in with the girls for the second game of the second part of this season, we’re all excited and have been working hard to hopefully put in another good performance.

“It’s been a big week for the club and it’s been a sad one, so I think we’re all glad to be playing at Olympic and will be doing our best to try and get the win and make our club proud.

“Everyone’s excited to be back in together, to be back training and also to be playing, it was a long while in between training and games so I think everyone’s excited to be around each other, everyone feels fresh and everyone just wants to play and be with each other so it’s been really nice.

“Obviously, our end goal is to finish top of the ladder and get promoted to NPL next year, but week in week out we just take it game by game.

“We know it’s not going to be easy and we do put that pressure on ourselves to finish top of the league, so for us it’s just making sure that we play well every week and pick up the three points.”
