Olympic kick off the 2022 NPL Queensland Women’s season on the road against Lions in Richlands on Friday night. (8:15pm KO)
Olympic head to Lions Stadium for a blockbuster return to the NPL against the defending Champions in the opening match of the new season.
Olympic secured their spot in the top tier of women’s football in Queensland after finishing undefeated and topping the FQPL Women’s standings in the second phase of the 2021 season.
A host of new faces have arrived at Goodwin Park ahead of the new campaign with Natalie Tathem, Chantelle Symes, Inocent Michael, Kristi New, Brittney Lacek, Lua Suero, Faith Stephenson and Christina Amajouyi all joining Danny Byrne’s squad.
Olympic’s new-look side come into Friday’s clash off the back of a strong pre-season that included victories over two of last year’s top four sides, Capalaba and Gold Coast United.

“We’re really looking forward to it, as always Lions will be a good challenge and a great way for us to start the season to see how we fit amongst the rest of the league.
“We have got a good mix now of with a depth of experience as well as a lot of youngsters that are keen and eager.
“I feel like we’ve got a really good balance that maybe we haven’t quite had before so really excited to see how we go on Friday night.
“We’ve had a few interruptions with illnesses like I’m sure every team has but the girls are gelling really well and training’s been great, everyone’s fully fit and ready to go.
“With the team we’ve got under Danny (Byrne) we’re looking to make finals I think we can’t expect anything less than that.
“We worked really hard to get back in the NPL and get a good group together, we now look to build on that and I think finals is the aim.”
