Olympic FC Assistant Coach, Richard Greer will look to help Filipino outfit, Kaya defeat Sydney FC and book a spot in the AFC Champions League Group Stage on Tuesday night.

Greer will assist Graham Harvey who has also come in for the Champions League alongside regular Head Coach, Yu Hoshide in Tuesday’s match at Nestrata Jubilee Stadium.

Kaya are based out of the Iloilo Province in the Philippines and won the Copa Paulino Alcantara after their 2021 league season was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Greer, who has worked as Olympic’s First Team Assistant Coach since last September spent time at Kaya during his playing days – turning out for the side in 2014 & 2015.

Coincidentally, Ben Cahn had the opportunity to lead Kaya at the same stage of the competition last season although opted to stay with Olympic as the Champions League qualifiers clashed with a crucial part of the 2021 NPL Queensland campaign.

Greer, who has been in camp in Sydney with Kaya since Saturday said he was thoroughly enjoying the experience.

“As a former player it is an honour for me to join the Kaya FC coaching staff for their training camp and AFC Champions League game against Sydney FC , Greer said.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to be involved in a professional environment and I look forward to the game on Tuesday.

“I would like to thank Ben (Cahn) and Olympic for allowing me this opportunity.”

The winner of Tuesday’s match will earn a spot alongside Yokohama F. Marinos, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and Hoan Anh Gia Lai in AFC Champions League Group H.
