PREVIEW
The 2021 NPL Queensland Champions will be crowned when Olympic FC face Lions in Saturday’s NPL Queensland Grand Final at Perry Park (7:30pm KO).
Saturday’s match will be the third time in four years that Olympic and Lions have faced each other in the final in a rivalry that has consequently become one of the biggest in Queensland.
Olympic booked their spot in Saturday’s decider courtesy of a 3-0 Semi Final win over Young Roar, while a 92nd minute Ethan Docherty winner saw Lions get past Peninsula Power in the other Semi Final.
Olympic come into the final on the back of five straight wins, including a victory over Lions in a run that’s seen them keep five straight clean sheets in the process.
Defensively, Olympic have kept a league best 15 clean sheets and conceded just 19 goals – the least of any team in the league this season.
At the other end of the park Daniel Leck, who has top scored for Olympic this campaign netted his 18th goal of the season against Young Roar in Sunday’s Semi Final.
Leck is closely followed by Shannon Brady at the top of the club’s goal scoring charts, who has 14 goals to his name.
A win on Saturday would see Olympic crowned NPL Queensland Champions for the second time.
LAST TIME WE MET
A first half Shannon Brady strike proved decisive as Olympic defeated Lions 1-0 at Goodwin Park last month.
Olympic and Lions have previously gone head-to-head eleven times in NPL Queensland action, winning five matches apiece and drawing once.
WHAT WAS SAID – Ben Cahn: Head Coach
“Games between us are always close. I’m sure it’ll be similar tomorrow.
Our recent record against them has been very good. Our recent form has been very good. We know what we have to do.
We’re ready to give it everything one last time this season.”
