Olympic FC wish to confirm Liz Doherty will not return to the club for the 2022 NPL Queensland Women’s season.

The midfielder made a significant contribution to the club both on and off the pitch across two stints and 109 appearances in red and white.

Doherty was crowned SEQ Women’s Premier League Player of the Year in 2014 and was part of the team that reached the 2016 NPL Queensland Women’s Grand Final during her first spell at the club which ended when Olympic’s NPL Women’s licence wasn’t renewed following the conclusion of the 2017 season.

When senior women’s football returned to Goodwin Park in 2020, Doherty was the first player to sign on – captaining the club’s Capital One Women’s side to a championship that season.

In 2021 Doherty was part of the club’s return to the elite circles of women’s football in Queensland, earning a spot in the FQPL Women’s Team of the Season as Olympic topped the league and earned promotion to the NPL.

Doherty thanked those who helped make her time at Goodwin Park such a success, adding Olympic supporters haven’t seen the last of her in red and white.

“I will no doubt be back at Olympic at some stage again,” Doherty said.

“But until then, I wish Danny (Byrne) and all the girls the best of luck for the NPLW season, I will definitely be supporting them from the sideline.”

Olympic whole heartedly thank Doherty for an incredible contribution to the football club and wish her all the best for the future.
