Olympic Football Club are delighted to confirm Samoan International, Matalena Daniells will return to the club for the 2021 NPLW Queensland season.

The 24-year-old defender spent three seasons at Olympic between 2015 & 2017 and was part of the side that played in the 2016 NPLW Grand Final.

Following her time at Olympic, Daniells went on to play two seasons at Moreton Bay where she also played in a Grand Final in 2019 before spending the 2020 campaign at The Gap.

In 2018 Daniells made her international debut for Samoa, representing the country at the OFC Nations Cup before captaining the side to a silver medal at the Pacific Games the following year.

Daniells has also represented Samoa at youth level, having received call ups for the nations U-20 side during her previous stint at Olympic.

Daniells is the eleventh confirmed signing for the 2021 season as Danny Byrne’s squad begins to take shape.

The defender joins Liz Doherty, Teani Karalouka, Kate Morton and Eftie Avraam as the fifth player who has previously played NPLW for Olympic to return to club for it’s comeback to the competition in 2021.

Daniells said she couldn’t wait to get going again at Goodwin Park.

“Having played at Olympic years ago, the positive memories, good culture and fun team environment made it an easy decision to return,” Daniells said.

“I’m looking forward to a fun and competitive environment and of course – finals football.”

Olympic will begin their pre-season in early January ahead of the expected NPLW kick off in March.
