The Order of AHEPA

AHEPA is reputed to be the largest single Hellenic organization in the world. It exists in Australia, New Zealand, United States, Canada, Cyprus and Greece. AHEPA was founded on the 26th of July 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. It is a non political and non sectarian body with over 1000 chapters or local units throughout the world.

AHEPA was founded in Australia in Werris Creek, NSW, in May 1934. From its humble beginnings the Order has spread throughout Australia, with Chapters operating in all states .

The AHEPA family is a group of people who work diligently and persistently in an effort to make the world a better place for those less fortunate than themselves.

Philanthropy has been the pillar of strength for the organisation. AHEPA contributes to medical research, cultural and educational activities. AHEPA donates to various charities and supports the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. AHEPA constantly seeks new philanthropic projects where it can continue to contribute its resources to help the needs of the community both at home and abroad. The organisation builds upon prior successes to catapult future achievements.

The major purpose of the Order of AHEPA is to bring a better understanding between the Hellenic people and the Australian community, and at the same time preserve, maintain and foster the traditions and culture of Greece.

OBJECTS & PRINCIPALS

  1. To promote public interest in Hellenic culture and language for the benefit of Australian-Hellenic society.
  2. Raise funds for charities and welfare groups – emphasis is placed on medical research, the needy and sick, educational institutions, and the aged.
  3. To educate and inform the public through various mediums eg. media, lectures, seminars and functions, as to the history and benefits of Hellenism to humanity.
  4. To strengthen Australian-Hellenic relations.
  5. To promote and practice friendship, fellowship, and benevolence amongst members.
  6. To arrange social functions which highlight culture, traditions and entertainment.
  7. To promote community wide understanding and friendship.
